Andrew Richards serves as the Chair of the Visual Arts Department at the Gunnery and has over twenty years of experience as a visual arts teacher. He grew up as a faculty child at South Kent School and later attended Rumsey Hall and Westminster School. Andrew currently teaches Ceramics, Graphic Design, Introduction to Video, Painting, and Advanced Placement courses Studio Art and Art History. He is also involved with the Gunnery Drama department as a set designer. Andrew received the Class of 1955 Distinguished Teacher Award in 2011 and was also awarded the Hamilton Gibson Chair for Humanities from 2012-2015. Andrew is a member of the National Art Education Association and the Connecticut Art Education Association. During the summer, he enjoys sailing on Cape Cod, spending time with family, and creating landscape paintings, sculptures, and other works. Andrew lives with his wife Kristin and their two daughters Hannah and Audrey at their home in South Kent.
